If you experience redness that doesn\u2019t resolve, crusting or oozing contact the office immediately.\u00a0<\/li><li>The initial swelling after treatments may last longer than two days.\u00a0 Some patients experience swelling for about a week and the injected area can look somewhat uneven during this time.\u00a0 This means that the result directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result.\u00a0 It may take 2-4 weeks to even out.<\/li><li>After 3-6 weeks, we may want to re-evaluate the need for additional treatment.\u00a0 Vertical lip lines will not go away completely, but they will soften in appearance.<\/li><li>After any treatment with fillers, you may\u00a0<strong>FEEL<\/strong>\u00a0lumpy and\/or bumpy for a few weeks or even months afterward.\u00a0 This is normal. You can safely apply a cold compress on\u00a0treated areas\u00a0to relieve discomfort and minimize swelling. However, don\u2019t put pressure on the cold compress. Just gently lay the compress on the swelling. Slight bruising and swelling near\u00a0injection sites\u00a0are commonly reported\u00a0side\u00a0effects\u00a0of\u00a0injections\u00a0that diminish within 48 hours after treatment. Taking NSAIDs or applying heat to swollen\u00a0injection areas\u00a0would not only worsen discomfort, but it could also cause migration.\u00a0 This is strongly advised against.<\/p><ol start=\"2\"><li><h5>Exercise Your Face<\/h5><\/li><\/ol><p>About an hour after you receive\u00a0injections, exercise your\u00a0facial muscles\u00a0by frowning, squinting, smiling, and raising your eyebrows for 30 seconds. Repeat these exercises several times throughout the day to help the\u00a0solution infiltrate\u00a0targeted muscles. However, be aware that you don\u2019t have to exercise your face to get the same great results from. Moving\u00a0facial muscles\u00a0and performing recommended\u00a0facial exercises\u00a0may simply expedite the reduced appearance of wrinkles and\u00a0fine lines\u00a0by approximately 1 day.<\/p><ol start=\"3\"><li><h5>Wait a Couple of Days Before Heading Back to the Gym<\/h5><\/li><\/ol><p>Strenuous activity increases heart rate and blood flow. While it\u2019s fine to take a leisurely walk after receiving injections, stay off exercise equipment for at least 24 hours. Heavy exercise may inadvertently spread to other areas, which could decrease the effectiveness and cause unintended side effects. Strenuous exercise after treatment could also increase the risk of swelling and bruising around the treatment areas.<\/p><ol start=\"4\"><li><h5>Avoid Putting on Cosmetics for the rest of the day.<\/h5><\/li><\/ol><p>Applying liquid foundation, blush, face powder, eyeshadow, and even eyebrow pencil can stimulate the skin enough to cause the dispersal to unintended areas. People who get\u00a0injections\u00a0for medical reasons should also avoid pressing on\u00a0injection sites\u00a0and the skin surrounding the\u00a0injection sites. It is perfectly fine to apply cosmetics the following day.<\/p><ol start=\"5\"><li><h5>No Lying Down or Leaning Forward Significantly for 4 Hours<\/h5><\/li><\/ol><p>Lying down or bending over for more than a few minutes following\u00a0treatment\u00a0may disperse the\u00a0solution from its intended site. If you are someone who bruises easily, sitting upright can also help reduce bruising by preventing increased\u00a0blood flow\u00a0to your face.<\/p><ol start=\"6\"><li><h5>Try to Sleep on Your Back<\/h5><\/li><\/ol><p>The first night after your\u00a0treatment, sleep on your back as much as possible to minimize pressure on\u00a0facial muscles. Of course, if your injections were meant to reduce forehead wrinkles or brow furrowing, you won\u2019t have to worry about the pressure of your face against your pillow. However,\u00a0injections\u00a0for treating crow\u2019s feet are typically given near or on the side of the face. If you tend to sleep on your side, try placing pillows next to your body to stop you from turning over while sleeping.<\/p><ol start=\"7\"><li><h5>Don\u2019t Drink Alcohol Before or After\u00a0Injections<\/h5><\/li><\/ol><p>Beer, wine, and hard liquor contain ethanol, a substance that dilates blood vessels and increases\u00a0blood pressure. When blood vessels expand, this allows more blood to flow rapidly throughout your body. Increased\u00a0blood flow\u00a0means possible worsening of swelling and bruising at and around\u00a0injection sites. A good rule of thumb regarding alcohol: Avoid alcohol 48 hours before and 48 hours after\u00a0treatment.<\/p><ol start=\"8\"><li><h5>Put Off Other Skin Treatments<\/h5><\/li><\/ol><p>Wait for at least 24 to 48 hours before you get facials,\u00a0microdermabrasion, laser skin therapy, or massages.<\/p><ol start=\"9\"><li><h5>Relax in the Shade<\/h5><\/li><\/ol><p>Avoid full\u00a0sun exposure\u00a0for the rest of the day after receiving\u00a0injections. Any kind of heat (including hot showers) will increase your\u00a0blood pressure\u00a0and promote bruising. If possible, avoid going out in the sun for one to two days to fully reduce the potential of migration due to sunlight and heat. Also, stay out of\u00a0tanning\u00a0beds,\u00a0saunas, and\u00a0hot tubs\u00a0for at least 24 hours. (When it\u2019s safe to go back into the sunshine, be sure to use a high-quality\u00a0sunscreen.)<\/p><ol start=\"10\"><li><h5>After care\u00a0and Medications<\/h5><\/li><\/ol><p>Most people do not need to take any\u00a0painkillers\u00a0such as acetaminophen or\u00a0ibuprofen\u00a0after having\u00a0injections\u00a0because any discomfort is almost always minimal and temporary.
